China Confucius Study Plan

The Confucius China Study Plan (CCSP) is a scholarship programme funded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing, a department under the Ministry of Education in China.

The purpose of the CCSP programme is to enable researchers and other professionals from outside China to conduct relevant research visits or study trips to China. Ph.D. students also have the opportunity to apply for a joint PhD degree with some of the best universities in China.

The CCSP programme only covers projects within the disciplines of Humanities and Social Sciences.


application procedure

There is no application deadline for CCSP scholarships, as applications are evaluated and approved on a case by case basis. However, the joint PhD fellowship has an annual application deadline on February 15.

Joint PhD Fellowship

This fellowship aims to support Ph.D. students at Aalborg University to travel to China to study, conduct research and write their Ph.D. dissertations.



From 6 months to 2 years.

application Requirements

  • Cannot be a Chinese citizen
  • HSK (Chinese language test) test score level 3 is required, with priority is given to applicants with higher qualifications in Chinese under the same conditions.

  • Two letters of recommendation from researchers within the related field
  • HSK transcript
  • Summary of MA thesis or other academic publications
  • Summary of Ph.D. dissertation
  • Research plan for the study in China



  • Accomodation and residence support: 80.000 RMD per annum
  • Research fund: 20.000 RMB per annum
  • Round-trip international airfare
  • Tuition
  • Other support is provided by the host university in China
  • Expenses for foreign supervisorøs visit or research in China
  • Life expenses and health insurance in China
  • Group activities and cultural excursions

"Visiting scholar to China" Fellowship

This program serves to support teachers, researchers, postdoctoral scholars with the credential of assistant professor and above from Aalborg University to undertake research with Chinese researchers in China.


2 weeks to 6 months

Application material


  • 10.000 CNY per month
  • Round-trip international airfare
  • Life-insurance during stay in China


Applicants will be informed 3 months after handing in their application.

"Short-Term Visit to China" Fellowship

This programme aims to support senior government, education and culture officials, non-governmental organisations and business.



2 weeks to 2 months

International Conference Grant

The International Conference Grant aims at supporting researchers at Aalborg University to hold international academic conferences on Sinology or China Studies.

Chinese visiting scholar to AAU Fellowship

This program serves to support Chinese senior scholars to give ECTS credit courses on Chinese economics, business, finance, law, and culture, etc. at Aalborg University.


6 months to 12 months.

Application material


  • Chinese visiting scholars will receive salary based on expatriation salary standards of the Chinese government.
